Our Mission
The value of childhood education is beyond measure. Our mission at Wakefield's Stepping Stone Preschool is to develop the "Whole Child", where the children gain confidence through the acquisition of basic skills. We establish in children love for learning, strong work ethics, creativity, respect and compassion for others including themselves. Our preschool follows the fundamental teaching of Dr. Maria Montessori, while incorporating modern approaches and technology in the classroom. Our classroom is designed for children from 2.5 to 5 years of age.
Our Teaching Method is designed to build upon the individual skills and knowledge that will be required in the kindergarten and elementary years. This unique approach to education developed by Dr. Maria Montessori encourages students to develop naturally.
Our main goal is to help each child become a self-assured, independent, life-long learner. We have an indoor and outdoor classroom.
Our outdoor classroom is a one without walls. We spend much time outdoors where children are able to explore and learn from the natural world year-round.
We created an environment that supports children's curiosity and imagination while also forming deep connections to nature. For example the children have their own flower, herb and vegetable garden. This activity engages all senses. From the striking smell of garlic bulbs to the soft scent of roses in bloom. Introducing children to gardening also introduces them to a world of sensory stimulation. It also teaches responsibility, fine motor skills, promotes patience and encourages healthy eating.
Our indoor classroom is assembled with Montessori materials and reflects the caring and well-prepared environment in which our teachers respectfully guide and follow the child. Both of our indoor and outdoor classroom offers your child 5 areas of study: Practical life, sensorial, math, language and cultural studies.
In addition to all these great learning tools we also have weekly themes 2-3 times per month. Learning to be creative helps us all to be better thinkers. Weekly themes like Space, Dinosaurs, Sea life allow children to explore parts of the world that they don't see every day. Learning about these subjects can improve their imagination and help them to be more creative in their thinking.

Heidi Lapensee
Certified Montessori Teacher
Heidi has been an early childhood educator for over 14 years. She is also a certified Montessori Teacher who's passion is teaching children. Heidi has created a unique and stimulating home environment for children who will receive unconditional love and support. She is 100% bilingual in English and in French. She brings with her an up to date First Aid and CPR Certification and is recognized with the Quebec Government for children (Ministere de la famille). She has obtained several dozen diplomas in her 14 years of experience pertaining to child development. Heidi is a mother of 3 adult children and a grandmother of 1.

Danika Legault

With a nurturing personality and hands-on approach towards learning, we are thrilled to have Danika as a part of our team. Her commitment to childhood education is extraordinary. Danika also is completely bilingual in English and in French and brings with her an up to date First Aid and CPR Certification. She is currently studying to become an Early Childhood Specialist. She is also a mother of a young preschool aged child.
